The Rune · regional history
The mage rebellion grew from a contradiction within Demacia. A kingdom founded by people seeking refuge from magical devastation came to treat magic within its own population as a threat. Some citizens concealed their abilities, while others were imprisoned or subjected to the authority of the Mageseekers. The promise of safety depended on who was allowed to belong inside it.
Sylas encountered that system first as someone whose ability to perceive magic was useful to the state, and later as a prisoner. During his confinement, he discovered the significance of petricite's capacity to hold magical power. Lux's visits brought sympathy, secrecy and a source of magic into the same relationship. Their connection became one of the personal routes through which a larger political crisis unfolded.
When Sylas escaped, the conflict could no longer remain hidden behind prison walls and private fear. His revolt challenged the institutions governing Demacian life, but resistance did not produce agreement about methods or goals. Lux's determination to protect vulnerable people and Sylas's campaign against the kingdom's rulers are connected without being interchangeable.
Jarvan III's death and the events developed in the Lux comic and The Mageseeker carry the story beyond the initial escape. The rebellion changes institutions as well as individuals. Its importance lies in that wider question: whether Demacia can confront the violence of its own laws while retaining the ideals of protection and duty that many of its citizens still cherish.
